50th Annual Next Generation Jazz Festival
Update

As per the order from California Governor Gavin Newsom and our public health officials to cancel or postpone any public events of over 250 people, the Monterey Jazz Festival has decided to make the Next Generation Jazz Festival a virtual event for 2020. After careful consideration and discussion, we have determined that this is the safest course of action and most prudent choice to help slow the devastating coronavirus disease COVID-19. As the event brings thousands of young people, their families, and the local community into Monterey, we feel that making the event virtual is the most responsible and conscientious decision for the health and well being of our attendees.

Jazz teaches us to improvise, to be adaptable and to creatively approach any challenge that we face. The Monterey Jazz Festival, in the spirt of jazz, and with our deep commitment to providing unique and meaningful jazz education opportunities to our young people, will make the 2020 Next Generation Jazz Festival a virtual event. The virtual Next Generation Jazz Festival will still allow all the schools to compete, be judged by a panel of esteemed jazz musicians and educators and participate in workshops and clinics. The Next Generation Jazz Festival celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2020, and while we will not be able to celebrate with each of you in person, we ask that you maintain your excitement and enthusiasm when you join us for the 51st Next Generation Jazz Festival, March 19-21, 2021.
